KT Completes Nationwide LTE Deployment in Korea

Korean telecom operator KT said the company has completed nationwide LTE (Long Term Evolution) network installation in 84 cities of Korea, according to an April 23, 2012 report by the Korea Herald. KT aims to provide LTE services in the entire country, including smaller counties, in the first half of 2012 and score a LTE subscriber base of four million in the second half. Currently KT has 500,000 LTE subscribers, while SK Telecom has 2.25 million and LG Uplus has 1.5 million, according to the same source. It is reported that KT plans to launch VoLTE (Voice over LTE) services in October 2012 the earliest as mobile phone makers are expected to release mobile phones exclusively for VoLTE services.
